GOP = Liar, Fear-Monger, Liar, Fear-Monger

January 07, 2010 By: Godless American Category: Home, politics, religion

Politicians lie.  We’ve all known that since we the moment we grew up and became adults, or sooner for some of you that gain wisdom early.  Lying comes in many forms.  There’s simply withholding the truth, or maybe not correcting other people’s lies.  There’s giving half-truths so what you’re saying is mostly true.  Then there’s a complete unequivocal lie whereby someone states one thing with the full knowledge that the opposite is true.

Filtering through these different types of lies is exactly what you have to do when listening to almost any rhetoric be it originating from the media, politicians, our acquaintances… More and more I’m coming to the conclusion that people that support the GOP (along with fundamentalist Christians) have no idea how to distinguish between these types of lying.  This is a failure in critical thinking skills.  Once a person believes that so-and-so tells the truth, they no longer try to distinguish between when they’re telling the whole truth or half-truths.  They no longer question if the person would ever lie.  It just simply isn’t done.  It’s my theory that GOP supporters, Tea Baggers, and Fundies are all part of this group of people that have little to know critical thinking skills.

Now, with that in mind the GOP continues to abuse their constituents low critical thinking skills by lying and fear-mongering.  Case in point:

1) Dems should be afraid of losing their majority in 2010 because it’s almost certainly going to happen.  How do we know, because there are so many Dems retiring.

2) The failure of TSA and Homeland Security and Obama is that no one is saying “terrorism” enough.  We need to say “terrorism” as often as possible in order to remind everyone that we are at war with “terrorists.”  America is at war with drugs communism Iraq Afghanistan Terror.

First off, the Dems losing seats and thereby their majority may happen.  There’s an election, who knows what the results will be.  You could argue that the majority isn’t even important considering how well the Dems have used it up to now.  What you can’t argue, legitimately, is that the Dems have more to fear than the Reps when it comes to losing seats because the numbers don’t even suggest that.  If anything they suggest the exact opposite.  Polls show that Dems are more in favor than the Reps; both have low scores but Reps’ tend to score a good ten points or more lower.  Also, there’s more Reps Representatives and Senators retiring than there are Dems.  I know Faux viewers are pulling their hair out by now because this simply can’t be true; Glenn Beck never mentioned this!  No, of course not.  He’s off ranting about how African-American is a bullshit term for… what?  Black, Negro, Afro-American,… or would Beck prefer Nigger?

Second, WTF does using the word “terrorism” have to do with keeping the country safe?  Let’s just skip over that fact that Obama and his appointees have been using the term over and over again for months.  But, in what way would it benefit the American people, how would it help keep us safer, if Obama said the word “terrorism” more?  Of course, it couldn’t be the GOP or Dickhead Cheney’s repeated international statements saying that America is weak that would instigate an attack, would it?  No, it wouldn’t be the continued use of Holy Warriors trying to convert Afghanistan and Iraq people to Christianity, would it?  It wouldn’t be that America has killed thousands of innocent civilians and tortured thousands more and many Americans support these actions that would create animosity towards America, would it?  Nah, it’s because Obama doesn’t say the word “terrorism” enough.  Got it?

What’s sad is how many people believe this crap spewing from Faux News and the GOP.  Let me set the record straight, whether you call yourself Conservative, Libertarian, Republican, etc. you’re either a complete idiot for believing their drivel, you’re one of the people lying for your own benefit, or you’re a complete asshole that believes the American Dream is to care only about yourself and never about anyone else.  I’m betting it’s one of the first two.

Ignorant and Free? You Can’t Be Both

Sad news coming out of Oklahoma.  75% of high school students couldn’t say who was the first President of the United States.  While many of these questions are expected to be answered correctly by people applying for U.S. citizenship, it appears that it’s not important for people born in the U.S. to have any idea about civics or U.S. history.

Question                                            % of Students Who Answered Correctly

What is the supreme law of the land?                                                                 28

What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?              26

What are the two parts of the U.S. Congress?                                                  27

How many justices are there on the Supreme Court?                                  10

Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?                                                14

What ocean is on the east coast of the United States?                                  61

What are the two major political parities in the United States?               43

We elect a U.S. senator for how many years?                                                   11

Who was the first President of the United States?                                           23

Who is in charge of the executive branch?                                                        29

Is it just me or is it, perhaps, even worse that almost 40% of the students didn’t know the name of the Atlantic Ocean?

The No Child Left Behind Act that was put into place by Bush and his lemming Republicans does exactly that.  It leaves children behind.  It leaves them behind in civics, creative thinking, critical thinking, etc.

Oh, on a side note.  OK was decidedly RED during the last presidential election.  What does that say about the Republican constituents?

You know what’s really funny?  I found this book review that seems perfect for this occasion.  Hell, maybe it helps explain what’s going on in America.

What’s ironic about this is that the book review was done by The Oklahoma Daily.  I guess people in Oklahoma need to start doing some more reading.  Kudos to the OK Daily for reviewing this book in possibly one of the states that is being specifically targeted by this book.

My favorite part:

For example, the problems that Pierce addresses are nearly all related to Republicans. It wouldn’t be hard to believe that this book was once titled “Idiot Conservatives,” but changed at the last minute before printing.

Bush Administration Still Needs to be Investigated for Torture

August 10, 2009 By: Godless American Category: Home, politics, video

Lest we forget…

Eric Holder needs to remember that it wasn’t just those CIA operatives that went beyond the orders given by Bush administration officials, it’s also those original orders that need to be investigated.  Torture is wrong, it’s immoral, it’s illegal.

This is What Stupid America Looks Like

July 21, 2009 By: Godless American Category: Home, politics, religion

These people are all idiots.  They’re like a bunch of 1st graders that just don’t understand that just because they didn’t get their way, doesn’t mean that someone cheated.

If you still think Obama isn’t an American, or you think his birth certificate is fake, then you are just as stupid as these people here.  The same people attend Tea Parties and complain about taxes and spending when they sat there during Bush’s term.  The same people cry foul when Christians aren’t given a legal defense to be biased against other people and claim that they are being biased against because they can’t practice their religion.  The same people look at other people of different cultures and lifestyles and think, “Those people are ruining America.”  The same people claim America is a Christian nation when it never has been, nor has it ever said so of itself.  These same people believe that yelling is just another way to debate, and lying is only done be people that aren’t Christian.  Stupid isn’t a cultural issue, it’s a brain power issue. If you’re one of these people, please, for the sake of humanity, check yourself into the nearest mental health clinic and seek immediate attention.

“Deeply Disappointed” by Obama?

June 16, 2009 By: Godless American Category: Home, politics, religion, video

Anne L. Weismann, a lawyer for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) recently stated she was

“deeply disappointed that the Obama administration is following the same anti-transparency policy as the Bush administration when it comes to White House visitor records. Refusing to let the public know who visits the White House is not the action of a pro-transparency, pro-accountability administration.”

She said this in a recent interview on MSNBC.  I’d have to agree.  That makes two specific issues that I’m in complete disagreement with Obama about: this, and gay marriage.

I would like to take a moment though, to point out that I’ve never thought Obama was a liberal or a progressive.  These socialist accusations that Obama has received only show the total ignorance of the Right because they can’t even recognize a moderate any longer.  Obama is in the center politically.  I knew, as did many progressives, that Obama wouldn’t deliver everything we wanted because he doesn’t only represent us.  Unlike Bush, Obama tries to stay center and thereby representing everyone.  Whether you agree with the strategy or not, that’s what it seems he is doing I’m not saying he even does it very well, but that’s what I believe he’s trying to do.   I’d love to see the Center move a little to the Left.

I would prefer Obama took a stronger stand on transparency; I’m pissed that they’re not releasing the torture photos.  I’d also like to see Obama take a strong stand against the DoMA which is complete bullshit and, as I understand it, unconstitutional.

But, I’m flexing my optimistic muscles and hoping that this won’t be a continued trend.  Also, it seems presidents are more daring during their second term.  I’d still like gay marriage approved federally, marijuana legalized federally, universal healthcare, an end to the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan, more transparency in government, legislature that permanently legalizes abortion, etc., etc., etc.  The guy does have his hands full.

Recent news has come out that Obama may be losing a lot of DNC contributors for his support of DoMA.  It’ll be interesting to see if his support for the act diminishes once the election time gets closer and he needs more contributors.

I don’t think I’m ready to give up on him yet, like Maher seems to be.  Well, I love Bill anyway.
